1. Check Out The Architecture
Lancaster is absolutely brimming with magnificent buildings to visit, most of which are bursting with history.
Even if you’re not overly bothered about architecture, you’ll be blown away by some of the sights in Lancaster.
Whether you take a visit to Lancaster Cathedral, Lancaster Castle, or even to explore the plethora of art galleries, you’re bound to be impressed with the beautiful architecture.
Lancaster Castle was founded in the 11th century on the site of a Roman fort overlooking a crossing of River Lune.
It’s definitely worth attending a guided tour when studying in Lancaster, as you’ll learn a lot about the city!
2. Go To The Beach
Okay, so there obviously isn’t a beach in Lancaster, but there is one about 20-minutes away in Morecambe Bay!
This sand and shingle beach has got plenty going on, with nostalgic arcades, loads of yummy fish & chip shops, and ice cream parlours.
A visit to Morecombe beach is essential in the summer, you can soak up the sun and enjoy some local fish & chips.

3. A Stroll Along The Canal
A quaint, pleasant walk along The Lancaster Canal is a perfect idea if you’re looking to head outdoors.
Breathe in that fresh Lancaster district air with stunning views of the Silverdale Coast, Forest of Bowland, and the countryside of Wyre.
The actual length of the canal is 41 miles, so of course, we don’t expect you to walk the whole way (but you could if you’re feeling brave!)
It really is up to you how far you walk, but a stroll along The Lancaster Canal is a splendid way to take your mind off things.

4. Have A Laugh At Lancaster Comedy Club
Lancaster Comedy Club is a brilliant night out with your pals at uni.
Just a short 5-minute stroll from your luxury accommodation, you can have a giggle and be back home in no time.
The comedy club has been held at The Borough every Sunday since 2009, featuring stand-up comedy from shows like Live At The Apollo and Taskmaster!
Each show features three comedians and a compere, as well as tour and tour preview shows.
You can even enjoy some delicious food and drinks if you want to make an evening out of it.
Likewise, the Lancaster Theatre is a memorable experience for all who visit.
Make sure to head here if you have some spare time away from studying.
5. Go To The Cinema
If you don’t feel like heading out on a night out after a busy day at uni, then an alternative is heading on a trip to the cinema.
Whether you want to catch a modern flick at the Vue Cinema Lancaster or a classic at The Dukes, you’re spoilt for choice.
Just a 3-minute walk from your student accommodation, you’ve got the perfect opportunity to watch a movie with your friends and enjoy plenty of popcorn.
As well as movies, The Dukes also has comedy shows and theatre productions, making it an all-around fab place to visit.

6. Visit Williamson Park
With some Insta-worthy views across Morecambe Bay and the Lake District fells, there’s a butterfly house, a small animal zoo, and even a café at Williamson Park.
Stroll around 54 acres of park and woodland and grab yourself a nice hot chocolate afterwards.
The mini zoo is home to some super cute meerkats and marmosets, all the more reason to visit this place!
The park is also where you can find The Ashton Memorial, built by millionaire Lord Ashton in memory of his second wife Jessy.
7. Walk Around Lancaster City Museum
If you want to learn more about the awesome city you’re studying in, take a trip to Lancaster City Museum
Considering the UK weather tends to be quite temperamental, there’s no better way to spend a rainy day.
This cultural hub is located in Lancaster’s former town hall, a captivating Georgian building, and the museum itself was founded in 1923.
Open from 10am-5pm every day, check out their learning from the past exhibition with original artwork from poetry to film.
The best thing about visiting this place is the fact that admission is free so you don’t need to worry about stretching your student budget for a good day out.
8. Take On The Challenge At Lancaster Escape
If you’re in the mood for a challenge then make sure to check out Lancaster Escape.
What happens is, you will be locked in a room for 60 minutes with your friends and the only way to escape is by working as a team to solve a series of clues, riddles and puzzles.
There’s even a great range of whisky and good selection of bar games to make the most of too.
They even do a 10% discount for students so don’t forget to bring along a valid ID card!
9. Go On A Tour Of Lancaster Brewery
Go behind the scenes on a tour of the multi-award-winning brewer in the North-west, Lancaster Brewery.
Taking place Thursday to Sunday with selected dates and time slots, the tour includes an insight into the brewing process.
You can discover how they make their quality craft ale, neck back a few pints of beer or cider, enjoy a pizza or some tacos, or even head to the shop area to get your own beer to take home with you.
This is a fun activity to do with your friends on the weekend, or even do with your parents when they come to visit!
10. Explore Lancaster’s Buzzing Nightlife
If you’re looking for ways to spend your weekend in Lancaster, then experiencing the buzzing nightlife should be up there.
The biggest student night out in Lancaster can be found on a Wednesday at Sugarhouse.
Run by the Students’ Union of Lancaster University, this popular venue regularly hosts famous DJs and bands that are touring. Expect great music, excellent student entry prices and unreal drinks promotions.
Head on a pub crawl around the Pendle Witches, The Sun to The Tap House, and on to Merchants 1668.
Falling into Crafty’s or Study Room after this wouldn’t be too bad of a shout now…would it?
