For students new to the capital, 2027 looks set to offer a calendar worth paying attention to. TCS London Marathon Double: A Once-Only Format

On 24 and 25 April 2027, the TCS London Marathon expands into a two-day event. It’s the first time this has happened in the race’s history. Known as the London Marathon Double, the change lets 100,000 runners take on the same Greenwich to Westminster course. More than 1.3 million people entered the ballot for the 2027 race. Organisers have called it a once-in-a-generation change to the event. The format won’t return in future years.

Haringey Becomes London Borough of Culture

From May 2027 through to March 2028, Haringey holds the title of Mayor’s London Borough of Culture. It’s a year-long programme built around the borough’s history of activism and cultural diversity. Organisers expect around 600 local artists and partners to take part. They aim to engage roughly 300,000 residents across venues including Alexandra Palace and the Bernie Grant Arts Centre. The title rotates between boroughs each cycle, so this concentration of investment in Haringey is a big moment.

A Blockbuster Cricket Summer at Lord’s

London’s cricket summer kicks off on 28 May, when Bangladesh play a Test at Lord’s for the first time since 2010. From 30 June, Lord’s hosts the second men’s Ashes Test against Australia. A women’s Ashes one-day international follows on 16 July. Meanwhile, The Oval stages the World Test Championship Final for the second time. Wimbledon’s 150th Anniversary

Wimbledon runs from 28 June to 11 July 2027, marking 150 years since the first Championships in 1877. The All England Club plans to unveil a statue of Andy Murray during the tournament, designed with his involvement. David Hockney Turns 90: A Double Tate Celebration

Tate marks David Hockney’s 90th birthday in July 2027 with two major exhibitions across the city. Tate Modern’s Turbine Hall hosts a large-scale multimedia installation. On 1 August 2027, London hosts stage three of the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift Grand Départ. This is the finale of a three-stage British opening that starts in Leeds and passes through Manchester and Sheffield. The London stage marks the first team time trial in the history of the Tour de France Femmes. The 18-kilometre route passes Tower Bridge, the Houses of Parliament and the London Eye, before finishing on The Mall. It’s also the first time the men’s and women’s Tours have started in the same country outside France.

NFL London Games Return to Wembley and Tottenham

October 2027 brings three NFL regular-season games to the capital. Tottenham Hotspur Stadium hosts the Cleveland Browns against the Minnesota Vikings on 5 October. It then stages the New York Jets against the Denver Broncos on 12 October. Wembley Stadium closes out the run with the Jacksonville Jaguars against the Los Angeles Rams on 19 October. The fixtures also mark 20 years since the NFL’s first regular-season game in London, played at Wembley back in October 2007.

A New Theatre Opens at Olympia

As part of Olympia’s £1.3 billion redevelopment, a 1,575-seat theatre opens in 2027, built by the Shubert Organisation and Trafalgar Entertainment. It’s the largest new theatre built in London since the National Theatre in 1976. The wider site already includes a food hall and a live music venue, with hotels and offices also planned. For theatregoers, it marks the arrival of a new stage in the West End’s orbit.

London Landmarks Half Marathon Turns Ten

In spring 2027, the London Landmarks Half Marathon reaches its 10th anniversary edition. More than 100,000 runners have taken on the route since it began, raising money for charity along the way. The course passes Whitehall, St Paul’s Cathedral, Big Ben and the Cheesegrater, before finishing close to Trafalgar Square. The Rex Reopens in Stratford
