The Student Guide: 8 Fun Things To Do In Bristol

Moving to a new city for university can be extremely daunting, especially if you’re going on your own intending to make a whole new friendship group **.

However, Bristol is a different kettle of fish when it comes to having the best uni experience. 

We can guarantee you’ll never want to leave after spending at least two weeks here in this Southern city…it’s got that student vibe.

When it comes to fun things to do in Bristol, we HAVEN’T skimped on providing you with the best of the best activities. 

And what makes them even better is they’re not that far from our luxury student accommodation in Bristol – a bonus!

1. Bristol Zoo Gardens

For all the animal lovers out there, the Zoo just HAS to be one of the most fun things to do in Bristol. It’s a literal haven of furry (and non-furry) creatures…what’s not to like?

Its mission is focused on saving wildlife, not alone but together with everyone who has an involvement with the establishment. 

By visiting, you’re giving them the money they need to help save wildlife. Surely, knowing this makes it so much more rewarding – right?

From Red Pandas, all the way to African Penguins, this zoo is home to some of the world’s rarest animals.

For an entry fee starting from £16.22, you’re in for a real treat if you decide to head here on your day off from uni. 

2. Pirate Walk 

Bristol is brimming with history that’s just waiting to be explored, and what better way to do this other than on a Pirate Walk?

It’s one of the city’s prime attractions, which gives you a full-blown insight into its heritage.

If it’s your first time in Bristol, this is defo one to get your new friends involved with.

Prices for adults are just £12.50, and the tour lasts for one full hour! 

If this is something you’re interested in, why not make a day of it and go for a delicious meal afterwards? We bet you’ll be feeling ravenous after all that walking.

3. Turbo Island 

Okay, so this is quite a unique attraction in Bristol which again reveals a little of its history. 

This small plot of land is located in Stokes Croft and has been called by some to be protected as a national heritage site.

It was once the home of The Shoe Warehouse, however, in 1940 it was destroyed in The Blitz bombing raid. 

Now, it might just be a mud patch with the occasional tossed sleeping bag and mattress, but to those who visit here, it is an area which conserves Bristol’s anarchic nightlife. 

It might only be a place for a fleeting visit, but if you’re looking to uncover a little of Bristol’s character, then this is the place you want to go. 

4. Paddle Boarding 

On the other end of the spectrum, why not hop on a paddleboard and float across Bristol harbour? 

When the sun peers out from above, this is one of those outdoor activities you need to get involved in. 

Just want a taster session? Well, you can! For just £30, you could learn the basics of the strokes and be standing up and paddling by the end of the session.

If you’re looking for something a little more cultural (we clearly can’t get enough of it) then definitely opt for the Harbourside Adventure. 

5. Spot Banksy 

Here’s a little fun fact – Banksy was born in Bristol back in 1974! So, you kinda have to do him justice and visit some of his spectacular pieces around the city – right?

He’s a world-famous artist, and you have the opportunity to see 11 pieces of his work whilst walking around…how crazy!

6. Clifton Suspension Bridge

The Clifton Suspension Bridge is a bridge linking Clifton in Bristol to Leigh Woods in North Somerset.

It’s a fantastic place if you want to see spectacular views over Bristol.

Drive over in your car, or why not get your running shoes on and travel over by foot? 

FYI if you’re driving, there’s a toll so you will have to pay over the other side, but if you’re walking then you’ll be fine.

7. Brandon Hill

There’s nothing more relaxing than finishing a day of uni and taking a long stroll around a park.

Spending time with nature can reduce feelings of anxiousness and stress, something you might need to think about whilst things deadlines are looming.

Brandon Hill is a scenic park with stunning views across Bristol. Make the most of it and grab yourself a tasty picnic, or sit on the bench and take your favourite book to read.

It costs no money and we promise it’s an activity you’ll be doing more than once!

8. Shopping In Bristol

Last, but certainly not least, if you’re a shopaholic, then you need to get yourself to Bristol Shopping Quarter!

It’s located in the heart of the city centre, so you’ll probably end up walking past it if you’re living in one of our Prestige student properties.

Areas include Cabot Circus, The Galleries and The Arcade, all within a suitable walking distance so you don’t have to bother with any form of transport!

It’s the perfect pit stop if you need to grab something to wear for your next night out, or even if you’re just looking to socialise in a cocktail bar with your coursemates.
